Filipino Community

The Philippines is predominantly a Roman Catholic country and is one of the only countries in the world where there is no divorce.

It is located in South East Asia and it is divided into three main islands: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. However, we have 7,107 small islands as well. English is our second language. We have lots of native dialects but we need to speak in Tagalog or English in order to understand each other.

In 2001 the first batch of Filipino nurses were hired by Basildon and Thurrock Hospital and after that more nurses followed and their families joined them afterwards.

The “Basildon Filipino UK Community” was launched in 2004 due to the increasing number of Filipinos and we have officers in both NHS and Non-NHS sector so that we can reach out to individual “Pinoys”.We have regular social, sports and family gatherings.

We have a Filipino church choir and we sing every second Sunday. If you wish to join come and see one of us after the Mass. For more information please contact Helen Pestano-Jasmin.

Mabuhay

Salamt
